Welcome to the homepage of the Swiss IBD Cohort Study

On the following pages we would like to inform you about the activities of the Swiss IBD Cohort Study.

We provide information for both patients suffering from inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and physicians treating IBD in Switzerland.

The number of patients that suffer from chronic-inflammatory bowel diseases (Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis) continues to increase also in Switzerland. In the context of the Swiss IBD Cohort Study we examine which factors can induce and modify intestinal inflammation as well as the consequences of the diseases on the physical, mental and social condition of the patients in a nation-wide network. In addition we examine the general effects these diseases have on our health system.

The Swiss IBD cohort study represents a co-operation with all university hospitals and many cantonal hospitals as well as private practice gastroenterologists.

In the long run the study aims at an improvement of the medical support of IBD patients in Switzerland.
